View Full Version : logical region code?

I recently put together a new system with a LiteOn SOHW 1693s drive. I recall setting it to region 1.

I also upgraded to the latest version of Decrypter. When I tried ripping my 1st disk, I got some warning about logical region not set. Is this like the software setting for PowerDVD or Windows OS?

The reason I ask is that the disk ripped fine, but I was unable to get a playable disk structure after processing with IFOedit. (I like to use IFOedit to strip, DVD2AVI, then re-encode with Tmpg, re-author in Maestro)

Having said that, DVDshrink worked fine on the same ripped disk

I read the threads on the ASPI vs. WinIO, and that the latest decrypter uses only ASPI. I just want to rule this out as a possible cause and understand better what the logical region (compared to the drive region) thing is all about.

As always, any help will be greatly appreciated.

No replys, so after giving it some thought (99% of my disks are reg 1) I set the logical region to 1.

No more weird decrypter messages, works like it did before. However, IFOedit still produces unplayable files. I did notice, that there are PUOs that are removed in IFOedit, where I never had them before.

So I changed the decrypter settings to remove everything and made it region free. Guess what, this time it played in both PowerDVD and IFOedit.

Am I correct in assuming that IFOedit needs decrypter to give it totally clean files?

I'm still using IFOedit .9 (it was always quite stable) other than the latest decrypter, the only difference between the old and new system is that I now run win XP SP1.

Anyone have any input?

I'd suggest you obtain and use the most current version of IFOEdit (or at least v.0.95) and see if your "unusual needs" disappear...
