I've been encoding the same episode ripped from DVD 100 times the past few days trying to get the hang of autogk, and encoding period. I try different settings to see file size differences for keeping things like AC3 audio.. etc.. One thing I've noticed is that the compressibility amount changes for reasons I don't quite understand.(which doesn't mean much because I don't understand much)
For example.. the same VOB file run thru AutoGK with the EXACT same settings (everything auto) except only changing between xvid and divx, caused compressibility differences. Xvid had compressibility of 107.70 (LOGFILE1.txt) and Divx had compressibility of 77.04 (LOGFILE2.txt). AutoGK also chose different resolutions for each of the codecs. With Xvid AGK chose 720x544-(see logfile1.txt) for res. and with Divx selected AGK chose 688x512-(see logfile2.txt).
I ran autogk again with the same file and settings as the above runs, except this time putting Minimum width of 720:
Xvid compressibility was 87.67 (LOGFILE3.txt-attached)
Divx Compressibility was 62.10 (LOGFILE4.txt-attached)
Is it normal for Xvid and Divx to be different on compressibility? If so, I take it that means Xvid compresses better than Divx?
Something else that I was curious about was that if I ran this vob file thru autogk with everything set to auto... autogk selected 720x544 and displayed compressibility of 107.70. But if I re-run that same setup except put 720 in as minimum width(which is what agk chose in auto)... compressibility in the log file shows up as 62.10. If autogk used 720x544 res. in auto, why would compressibility be different if you manual tell it to use 720 as minimum width?
