When using AutoGK (2.16 beta) to compress episodes (ex. 24 episodes, or anime episodes), what is the best way to make sure all the epsiodes end up at the same resolutions?

I have a dvd with 3 anime episodes on it that are very compressable.(720x544@233mb shows up as compressability=109) When I first encoded these episodes, they all came out with 720x544 res. But last night I re-did the same episodes and this time they all have slightly different resolutions. Basically I'm wondering what the best way to make sure the resolution you want them at is what AutoGK uses.(ex. if I want them all to be 720x544) I ran one of these episodes thru with "Maximum Width" selected(to see what would happen), and the end result was 640x480.

If I put in 720 as "Fixed Width" that still doesn't guarantee AutoGK will use 544 as the height does it? It's just that if I do an entire series I would like all the episodes to be the same resolution.

It should use 544 as height, because if it didn't, you'd get a wrong aspect ratio. So you should use a fixed width if you want AGK to convert the episodes in the same resolution.

Ok..thanks numaios. I'll give it a try.

You also might want to give the new FairUse Wizard 2 a try. It offers more flexibility in choosing parameters (such as resolution).

It is not freeware, but is regularly pretty cheap ($20US) and right now is offered on "special" for only $12US. No affiliation, just a satisfied user. BTW FUW does need a disc or ISO to process from--I use AGK for anything already on my HD as files.

Thanks for the info. laserfan. Just curious... how do you feel your end results with FairUse compare to your AutoGK results?(Quality wise)

In all honesty, I have never specifically placed the two tools in a head-to-head comparison. I've used both for different purposes, and they both make great-looking files.

In my opinion, as in my case I only use Xvid (Divx definitely suffers in comparison) the results should always compare favorably, depending on how you set-up the tools. As there are more things you can change in FUW, I suppose it is more prone to "human error" than AGK.

You can try FUW yourself for free; the free version is limited to 700K encode sizes among other things. Again, I'm not trying to sell it, especially as this is an AGK board, but if you want flexibility beyond it, well I haven't seen anything else quite like FUW. Again, I use both, "depending".

Do you mean divx suffers when compared to xvid? Or Divx suffers when you use FUW?

To clarify: First I have only used DivX 5.2.1 (free version). Second, when comparing results to Xvid, DivX sucks big time. I was frankly surprised at how badly it compared.

I've never tried DivX w/FUW, though it is an option. I only tried DivX with AGK. Never again!

P.s. I know, Never say "never again"!
