Hey guys, this is just a quick question and was just wondering what a few ppl's oppinions on it were. After a bit of searching I couldnt find a topic discussing this issue, but I have always been using ac3 as my audio for my rips. It has been a while since I used HE-AAC and thought I might try it again. But after listening to it I was rather disappointed with the quality of it, this was done using the latest nero dll's (6.6.0.15) on one of my 'lost' tv series DTV recordings. The ac3 sounded a lot better (as it should) but I think there would be such a huge quality difference, for last time I used HE-AAC I could swear it sounded much better. For measure, I found some of the older nero aac dll's that I had from a while back (ones that use the 6chold switch with besweet) and encoded the file. This file sounded alot more convincing and the usage of the SBR was alot less apparent, which makes me want to use the old nero dll's for my rips if I were to use HE-AAC. I was just curious as to whether anyone else has noticed this or am I just being paranoid ;) (though I swear there is a difference).

you need to compare the same encoding mode (eg preset) and the same source for being able to deduct any conclusions

That is what I did, streaming: medium for both, etc. all setting were identical in both encodings, and both were the same source, the ac3 track from that particular lost episode. I regularly follow hydrogenaudio, so I would not sink to the level of not adhering to the lowest forms of basics for performing comparisons, lol. (They pretty strict over there, but for good reason).

can you maybe upload snips of both encodes?

Are we testers? I've noticed something wrong too, but I'ven't done tests yet.

I havent properly tested them. That being said I did use the same settings so I would have expected the newer codec to sound better, though this is not the case imo. This is mainly just what I've heard after returning to HE-AAC after some absense, but this latest nero encoder does not make me want to change from AC3 to HE-AAC anytime soon. I might perform an ABX test and post my results soon, but I'll see how I go.

Can you include this codec (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=99071) in your comparision?
:thanks: :thanks: :thanks:
