multi pgcs

[Spaceone]

I want to compress dvd9 movie to fit on dvd5 (with all extras and menus). I succesfuly shrink extras, but with the main moive is a bit of a problem.

Bellow is what I have in vts_03_0.ifo (main movie ifo). How can I recreate this in scenarist? As I undestand this is seamless Branching?

hi spaceone,

why do you think these pgc's are seamlessly branched?
there is only one vobid per vts ... it simply re-uses cells in different pgc's.

i would demux by vobid (if you demux by pgc you will be processing assets twice), then use scenaid to recreate the layout in scenarist .... or you could do it manually if you prefer the challenge :)

Thanks for the tip about scenaid, but scenarist is giving me a headache.

Is any other DVD authoring tool I could recreate this layout with? The thing is, that I must compress main movie and add one addition subtitle, but with ifoedit (which I use mainly) I cannot recreate this layout.

I use CloneDVD - it's doubtful you'll find any application to fit a full DVD-9 to a DVD-5 with any acceptable quality, but I've used it successfully with minimal quality loss by deselecting things I don't need. On occasion I'll put all the extras and menus on one disk and deselect only the main movie, which I'll burn on a second disk.

As an experiment, you might want to try using DVD Shrink to compress the Full DVD. You may be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the resultant DVD - especially if you use the "AEC" quality enhancement...

I think I managed to complete the job with scenarist afterall (subtitles were big pain in the ass, very slow to import and even more slower to encode and in the end error and starting all over again :devil: ).

Well thanks for the tips guys, but I shrink everything that I could (compression was never the issue, I was more worried if I could recreate pgc layout). Extras to 1700 average bitrate and movie with 3700 avg bit - with hcenc, main reason beacuse is free) and also audio to 80kbits for commentaries and for extras with besweet).

I want to compress dvd9 movie to fit on dvd5 (with all extras and menus). I succesfuly shrink extras, but with the main moive is a bit of a problem.

out of interest, did you try using ScenAid? if you intend do to this process on a regular basis, i really would recommend looking into the 'big 3' process as it will save you a lot of manual effort :)

btw what subtitle error did you receive in scenarist?

I partially follow guide for big 3 method (doitfast4u, dvddec and vobsub), then I shrank main move (hc) and with scenaid import everything (except subtitles, because if I imported with subtitles it lasted whole night and it still didn't finished importing) in scenarist. In scenarist I manually import subtitles and recivied there errors when compliling dvd:

1. Can't open output file.[Subpicture Encoder]

Cause for this error was fat32, when moved to ntfs everything was ok

2. Error Can't encode. The bit compressed for one LINE is more than 1440. [ Subpicture more encoder ]

This error was only for one bmp in one subtitle stream, I just deleted this one bmp from subtitle track. I can live with that :).

i have read that converting that .bmp to a .jpg and modifying the .sst to reflect this can also prevent this error.
