Search didn't pull anything relative back.

Ok, i'm looking to try to record with a DVB. However after reading i think my Sat. provider, DirecTV, will not work. i've been doing analogue capturing for several years and am looking to go to DVB. Sadly, i don't know what Sat. Providers (maybe Dish Network?) are compatible (or atleast not encrypted something fierce or at all) in the United States i can use. Nor do i know what hardware to buy. As far as over the air DVB caps, that is not a option for me being nothing i want to record is over the air.

is there some guide that gives a heads up on USA people getting into DVB? i've checked around a few places and all of them seem to be either only explaining the differences in country/format, or are technical questions that someone has asked that already is using DVB.

For the service provider, i don't have the room to install a huge dish, only the typical ones the sized of DirecTV/DishNet. As far as the hardware price range i'm willing to go up to 1100usd for dish hardware and DVB card (hope this is enough, i really don't know).

Any help at all is appreciated, i'm seriously having a hard time in finding just the foundation of getting started here in the United States.

DirecTV is DSS, not DVB.

Dish is DVB.

Both are encrypted, so how are you thinking of capturing?

you can get a PCI DVB card with a CI slot and put a CAM in to decrypt it (if you have a subscription card). Or you can decrypt some channels with a program run on your PC called a SoftCAM. It depends on the encryption used by the satellite provider.
