I have a DVD5 I want to backup which has extremely low volume for its audio. Can someone please tell me the easy way to "turn up the volume" a little so I can backup this disc? Thanks.

Easiest way I know is to demux/decode the ac3 track(s) to wav. If you only need stereo, I'd recomend using DGIndex which can demux, add dynamic compression, normalize, and basically spit out a useable wav file that can be re-encoded to ac3.
If you want 5.1 it becomes more complicated. You need to split the ac3 into 6 files, do the dynamic compression and optionally normalize individually, maybe on ft 3, then re-encode to ac3.
There are plenty of guides and posts in audio encoding section of forum, so it isn't all that bad... :D
