What I have is a dvd ( Radio control car racing) there is no copyright on this so I can do what I want with it
Anyway,
I will try to explain as good as i can ...
At the moment there is a main menu from which race you want to choose from.
What i want to do is (re-edit ???) if that is the right term.
Take for instance the end credits on a movie scrolling up from the bottom to the top of the screen... Is there anyway I can do this at various intervals on my disc while the picture stays in the backround to use as an advertising method for my local club ?
If I cannot do it by having the picure still playing ,,,, can I do it by some other method ? In between races etc??
I hope I made this as cpear as possible for you to understand and if it is in the wrong forum i apologise . ;)

Rather than scrolling, you could create your own subtitles in a text file - for an example you'd need to use the tools listed here on a production DVD to create an .srt file so you'll know what it should look like. Once you understand what the timestamps should look like you can create your own messages and stamps, then "hard-burn" the subs into the image.

@vectra1
could you please edit your thread title to be more descriptive of your problem, as per forum rule 9).
thanks

Sorry for sounding ( and looking) so dumb
But could you please point me towards what you mean ? :o

Take a look at Nero (http://ww2.nero.com/enu/index.html), I think that you will be able to do pretty well anything you want to do. There is a little bit of a learning curve however, but you should be able to put something very nice together within a couple of hours.

Nero may well be an option for you, but if it's not the guide for Gordian Knot contains everything you need.

Tell me what software you are using.
You can do what you want to do with numerous packages.

Software is not an issue as i have bundles of the stuff.
I like the idea of the subtitle suggestion but I cant get my head around it :(

Like I said, use the tools and guides here to create an .srt subtitle file of a production DVD, and once you see what it looks like you'll understand it.

I am not in any way trying to be rude, but Kevin_K was asking what software programs you had available. Your non-responsive non-answer only serves to continue the chaos in this thread. I suspect he (and others) may know how to help you accomplish what you would like to do. However, no one can give meaningful guidance if they do not at least know what tools we might be using, to add these scrolling credits.
So, to repeat, could you reveal what software you might already have available? The task you are trying to accomplish can be done with MANY different programs. If you would like some help, it might be wise to direct us to a particular program that you plan to use.
For the record, I do what you are discussing in Nerovision Express. I have added scrolling credits as an overlay on the final minutes of a video creation. I have also added them after a video creation, with white text scrolling on a plane black background. I have also combined the two approaches, so the credits began with the final frames of a video creation, and then continued on a plain background afterwards.
I have also done similar things with opening credits, and have used scrolling text overlaid onto moving video in the middle of some creations.
I could give you instructions for Nero. However, since we do not know whether you have Nero, I am not willing to try to write out specific instruction. I might spend 30 minutes on this, only to have you finally respond that "oh, I do not have THAT program..."
I also know the same can be done in MOST of the software that allows one to actually author video.
Take care,
-Bruce

Thanks, BSpielbauer, I last read and responded within this thread during a bad migraine, and I knew better at the time than to touch on the subject of needing to know what programs he has without making myself look like an ass. I too had no plans to spend the time with a detailed description of how to make subs from scratch if he was unwilling to learn the basics of it.

Sorry about the confusion on the software issue, what I meant to say was that I have lots of confusing prgrams (confusiing for me anyway) and I was assuming that somebody might replying saying something to the effect of " Do you have Nero"?
Which I happen to have and use for normal burning issues.
What you have described in your reply above sounds ideal for me.
"I have also done similar things with opening credits, and have used scrolling text overlaid onto moving video in the middle of some creations."
Sounds just about right for me as I am not looking for out and out Professional results.
Just something basic that I can add to a Radio Control cra racing dvd I have got made up of several races and i want to put some form of advertising scrolling along the bottom of the screen right the way through the dvd to try and promote our club as a local Electrical retailer has agreed to put this on his system where it would play on his TV wall and in his shop window day and night for free. ;)
Again I apologise for not being specific about software, but if you do have some other program(s) in mind that could be used like Pinnacle9 etc. that would be easy to use then please maybe you could suggest one or two before you type out a guide for me, Then I could let you know if I have that particular one or not. :thanks:

Sounds just about right for me...
You said you have Nero. I am assuming, by this, that you have Nero’s “Ultra Version” – and I am also assuming that you have the most recent updates to this program (they are free, and can be downloaded at Nero’s website, assuming you own any previous version of Nero Ultra 6).
Click here to get the latest UPDATE to Nero "Ultra" (http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Nero_6_Ultra_Edition_Update_Update.php)
Everything that follows assumes you have Nerovision Express 3. This is the program I used to add scrolling credits (and also to do other editing and authoring). It is one program contained in Nero Ultra 6, mentioned above.
Start up NeroVision Express 3.
On the opening menu, choose to “Make DVD.” Then, choose “DVD-Video.”
Then, you can “Add Video Files” or “Capture Video” or Import Disc,” depending on what your source material is. You can choose any of the other options, as well. For right now, as an experiment, just get some video files loaded into a new project, regardless of what it is.
Once you have some video loaded into this “project” go to the “Edit Video” screen.
Look at the right-hand side of the screen. Notice the tabs, up at the top of the right-hand pane. There should be four of these tabs in all. Choose the third tab (this is the tab that appears to be a capital “A” with some cryptic symbols following it. The actual name of this tab is “DISPLAY TEXT EFFECTS.” (You can put your mouse cursor over this tab, and it should identify it as such.) Click on this tab.
Once you have it selected, scroll down the list below, on the right-hand side. Way, way down, you will see a choice that says “CREDITS.” Choose it, by clicking on it.
Now, drag this choice -- “CREDITS” -- down to the bottom section, and drop it in the thin horizontal band that is labeled “TEXT.”
This should open up a new window, which will be called “Properties.” Here, you can control things like the font which will be used for your credits, the color of the text, the size of the text, the opacity of the text, and finally, at the bottom, you will see a square box that says “Sample Text.” Type your complete credits into this box. Use line breaks (carriage returns, or hit the enter key) to separate different lines. The box may look too small, but it will allow you to add as much as you need. You can also try to “copy and paste” from a different source, using the usual keyboard commands, if you would rather.
When finished, go ahead and try to preview your new credits. You will soon get used to changing the starting and ending points, and how to have them continue on after the last existing frame, etc. You can be very precise with all of this, down to hundredths of a second, once you get the hang of it all.
Hope this gets you started…
-Bruce
