I've been using DVD Shrink to re-encode films to fit on a single layer DVD Disc, but after burning the movies would play perfectly fine on my laptop (bought a few months ago) but when I try to watch the same movie on my 3yr old Region Code Free DVD Player, the movies would skip frames from time to time. I would like to know what the problem is and if there's an alternative solution to re-encode films that will play properly on all or older dvd players

Hi!
Three possible causes come to mind:
1) Burn at a lower speed (2X or 4X)
2) Run a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your standalone player. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US
3) Media compatibility problem. To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

i have been burning with 4x speed, i will check out the compatibilities and i didn't really change the settings on nero or dvd shrink, most settings are default except i enabled the analysis option before encoding.
