Guys, can you please help a newbie.

I am using Windows XP with a Leadtek Winfast capture card.
I have successfully recorded film from my analogue camcorder and want now to record tape from my VCR

Using an aerial cable from the VCR to the TV card I can record the tape and hear the audio while it is recording but whenever I come to play it back I have no audio.

Am recording to an Uncompressed AVI format. There must be something very simple that I have missed but for the life of me I cannot find it. If you could spare the time to throw some suggestions at me I would appreciate it very much

Many thanks

Make sure you're recording from the Line In - double click the taskbar Volume Control icon, select Options > Recording and check the Line In. If that doesn't work, try Stereo Mix, just make sure to mute the Mic and close any other functions that make system sounds, as these will be recorded into the video file.

Hi again

Well some partial success. Using Stereo Mix as you advised and we have a sound track but the female voice in question sounds more male than female now !! Very deep and not quite at the right speed. Also I have to have WAV and PCM selected to get this sound on the "out" side.

Any thoughts please.

Thar's probably a bitrate problem, not a setting of your sound card. You might have better luck capturing to a different format, such as DVD standard MPEG-2.

Hi CWR03

You have saved my bacon. All working well now thanks to your great advice. Cannot thank you enough as I will now be able to save my old VHS tapes to DVD for posterity

Once again I really appreciate your help

Having got the video into the computer with sound, I then imported it into Virtual Edit. Although the picture and sound quality are OK, the sound goes out of synch with the video.

Have tried to amend the capture settings on my Winfast card but without joy so far.

Any suggestions.

Sorry to be a pain.
