Hi. I am trying to backup a Portugese movie with English subtitles. I have already ripped the movie into XViD format according to the guide. I am trying to rip the subtitles using VobSub. I do everything perfectly according to the guide. I end up with an idx and sub file. However, when I play the file, I can see the VobSub icon in the system tray but subtitles are not diaplayed no matter what I do. I choose "Display subtitles" and "English" from the vobsub icon, but nothing happens. Someone please help me.

Did you check if your idx/sub pair actually contains subs? What's the filesize for the .sub file, or (alternatively), do you get to see the subtitles if you open the .idx in subresync or subrip?

Steve

Hi. I edited the idx file in a text editor. Looks like it has the subs. I can see a bunch of "timestamp" and "Filepos" lines. The sub file is about 5.92 MB. The movie is about 2 hours long. I still can't see the subs. Please help.

Make sure the .idx and the .sub files are named exactly same as the video file (with the obvious exception of the extension).

I did and it still doesn't work. I have ripped subtitles successfully before and they worked. Now, I am doing the exact same thing and it doesn't seem to work. Will uninstalling and reinstalling VobSub (alone and not the entire GK) help? Thanks.

Open up the subtitles in Subresync. Are the timestamps negative?

There are 2 main solutions in there. I recommend that you try the one you feel more comfortable with first.
