Well,

Try this software to correct your crappy avi source files, which presumably corrects the errors (since I am also testing it :

EDIT: I am practically clueless of what it does to your source since I am facing language barriers to access its forums, but I have send some queries to its developers and await their response.......will keep you updated

It just recompresses input Avi files to XviD with GMC / QPEL disabled and if you have subtitles it will "burn them in" (make them permanent)... thats it ?!

This thing uses GPL'd software (XviD, VirtualDubMod). As it does not offer sourcecode for download it breaks the GPL.

What it does is re-encode AVI to AVI. It spares you some mouseclicks but basically you don't need to install it in order to recompess an XviD-encoded AVI. Just open the AVI in VDubMod, set it to 'fast recompress', select and configure XviD for 'compression', click 'save as'.

The result of any recompression will always be worse quality than the original file - so I fail to see any real sense in using that software. It certainly doesn't do anything to "correct your crappy avi source files".

It certainly doesn't do anything to "correct your crappy avi source files".
But - it does!

It turns your "crappy AVI source files" into "REALLY crappy AVI source files"... ;)

I would have to admit that it did improve the video quality although a mail from the developers tells me that they will put more avi error correction in their next releases (this one doesnt have much), similar to what I wanted ;) , noise removal, rainbow effects and other artifacts etc.

But honestly speaking I did see a video clarity improvement when I targeted a 900 MB file from a source of 700 MB.

The developer also wants ppl to put their expectations and requirements from his software in this post.........

BTW they are ready to release their next version and these changes might be incorporated in the next one, if they feel it is required.

OK, that post makes clear who the program is intended for: People whose standalone players can't play back GMC,Quarter Pixel or subs; also the program allows for AR corrections which you could not do by using VDubMod alone.

That's a valid use, of course. Although the developer shows some uncertainty as to what is not standalone-friendly in XviD's features - he switches off Trellis which is a valuable optimization on the encoder side and doesn't change anything for encoder.
