Why is it that when I convert my AVI files to DVD I lose the soundtrack even though Avi2Dvd and VSO DivxToDVD say they are also encoding the sound?
The movie plays fine by the way.

FWIW, a large number of things can cause this, and unless there are some known pitfalls to the methods/software you've used (search), probably going to have to work through troubleshooting.

I'd personally *start* with a look at things like:
What condition/format is your original audio in? Will your process work with another avi?

Do you have an audio stream in your new DVD, is it good, can you play it?

If there is no audio stream, or if it's a flat waveform, I'd check codecs for audio in avi & those used by Avi2Dvd and VSO DivxToDVD -- are they correctly installed & active, do you have other filters installed that are being used instead of the ones you want. You can do some checks with DXMan, Gspot, wmp among others.

If you can demux & create a playable wav file from your DVD files using something like DGIndex, then you might have a problem with your playback software.
