Hi, I've just been wondering about a couple things:
1. when I have the option of removing audio tracks - do I remove the DD2.0 or the 5.1 track? If I remove the dd2.0 track would my dvd work with 5.1 by default?
2. When using the preview and edit function, once i'm done blanking segments and saving it - do I need to do another prepare?
:thanks:

Which one you remove is up to you. If you remove the default audio, the DVD will play with no sound until you choose the remaining track from the menu.

No. If you did, what you just saved, would be erased.

ah thanks for the heads up :)
one other thing :o - is it me or do encoders have trouble with certain types of scenes? I'm reencoding a vietnamese music DVD at the moment and the scenes which have a lot of dancers on screen and camera movement look rather poor (blocks) unlike the other scenes which look almost good as the original DVD.

I see them alot in Vietnamese and Thai karaoke videos. As a video quality person, that disturbs me until I reach my beer threshold and all doesn't matter anymore. :p Anyways, if it was a DVD, then it was either stuffed and over compressed or they were VCDs transfered to DVD.

If you remove the default audio, the DVD will play with no sound until you choose the remaining track from the menu.Usually what I do after remove is just use IfoEdit to move 5.1 track (audio 2) to as audio 1. Then this will become the default audio. Do this for the main VTS and VIDEO_TS.
btw, I did a vn music DVD R1 for a friend of mine a few months back with 0.93.2 Pro with HC, CCE, and QMatOp - no preprocess. In RB, stripped LPCM 2.0 1536kbps (default audio) and keep DD5.1 448kbps, and blanked all extras. Result with HC came out better. But when previewing with PowerDVD, Showtime, Windvd, at certain high motion scenes video stutter (3 locations total) but audio continues. Then I notice the bitrate shown in PowerDVD and Showtime jumps up to 16Mbps then down to 0Mbps and back and forth, no wonder video stutter. This happens after rebuild stage. I played the problem m2v file and noticed the bitrate is way within normal specs. I see that vbr_brate_max=7800 (in rebuilder.ecl) for the main segments. I just don't understand why it jumps way up like that at problem area.
I was going to report back then but just want to wait to see if new versions will fix it. So last week, I did it with v1.0RC4.1, still the same overbitrate at that same point. I also tried AQE and it took 10 hrs to complete. That's too long. Still the same stutter area.
Then I tried to preprocess with DRMPv3, deleting all extras, stripping LPCM, keeping only the chapter menu (for list of songs), and readjust navigation. After prepare, avg bitrate is about 5Mbps, so I use High_High(4000+) matrix with HC 0.15. Result looks pretty good, just only 1 area stutters. Then reencode again with CCE 2.70, and the stutters go away. Now I don't know if it's rebuilding problem or the encoder used.
Anyway, since I got it working, I'm happy and I deleted everything as I need HD space for next projects. I still have music DVDs waiting for me at the other computer, but I'll do it later. If it happens again, I'll be sure to post and keep the needed info for analysis.

doh. sorry i meant that my reencoded version was blocky and not the original.
All the other scenes that don't involve a bunch of dancers and some camera movement are great - almost perfect in fact.
I'll post up a screenshot or two a bit later.
Thanks for Ifoedit tip spyhawk :)

[16:08:12] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- HC encoder selected
- VTS_01: 3,932,367 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V & .AVS files
-- Processed 275,458 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 55.8%
- Overall Bitrate : 3,386/2,709Kbs
- Space for Video : 3,798,796KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 8,808/786/2,709 Kbs
[16:17:28] Phase I, PREPARATION completed in 9 minutes.
About 68% reduction level with all the extras blanked out.
I've tried a few different matrixs and encoders but none of them seem to help much. Improvements in some areas, worse in others.
------------------------------------------
I think it looks worse in motion.
