First, I have noticed a problem with some video sources (DVD that came from a video source, such as a TV show) where the resulting file size after encoding for 75% is sometimes larger than the input VOBs and the quality is not as good as the original VOBs (choppy).
I was just encoding two episodes of a TV documentary that provide a great example of the problem. Both episodes were encode with a 75% target quality and identical options, including XVID output. The first episode resulted in a file that was half the original VOB size with good quality. The second episode resulted in a file that was larger than the original VOB size and that was choppy (video skips when the announcer was moving).
It would appear that options being selected based on the analysis of the input VOBs are causing the different encoding behavior. Does this make sense?
Oh yeah, I guess I should add the logs...
