I have instaled Nero 6, DVD Decripter and DVD Shrink on a new XP system. I have DVD Shrink set to use Nero. I still do not get a burner in the drop to select. I can not burn a DVD. What can I do to fix this?

hi chuck199 and welcome to the forum.

we may need some additional details to try and troubleshoot your issue.

1. what type of burner have you connected?
2. what version of nero are you using?
3. have you tried selecting 'create iso and burn with dvd decrypter' in lieu of using nero in dvd shrinks burn settings?
4. have you managed a successfull burn using your burner and any other application?

could you also please do me a favour a read this thread:
Rule 9 Alert (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=43066)
then do me another favour and remove all the helps from your thread title?

cheers

Sorry about the repeated help in my posting.
The burner is in a new Dell computer. I am not shure of the model burner, it is not handy right now. I am setting up a friends computer.
Nero Ver. 6.3.0.3
I've just gotten started with DVD burning. The help is greatly needed and I am greatful for anything you can do to help me.
As for the "create ISO and burn with decrypter" I'm not shure but I'll check it out.
Is there any info I can read on the verbage and meanings for DVD files and structure.
As I said DVD burnings is new to me. However I have been battling the box since DOS 2.0 came out.
Thanks for your help.

hey matey,

you can find some information in doom9's guide section, under basics:

DVD Basics (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvd-basics.htm)

in particular this:
Whats on a DVD? (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvd-structure.htm)

you can also search for terms on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page)

so, until you can supply some additional details, happy reading.

cheers

@chuck199

You might try the following (Because NERO has to be installed BEFORE DVD Shrink, in order for DVD shrink to recognize it), in exactly this order:

1) UNinstall both DVD Shrink and NERO

2) Reboot (Cautionary)

3) REinstall NERO

4) Reboot (Cautionary)

5) REinstall DVD Shrink

5) Reboot (Cautionary)

What about the ASPI? I need to know more.
No Nero was a full install and not an OEM.
Thanks again for all the help!

@chuck199 - When you go to the Nero site to get aspi also update your Nero Package. It is now up to 6.6.0.16 your a good bit behind.

This is a known Nero 'fault' and if you follow the previous guide to using Nero and DVD Shrink in this thread you'll be ok

Why not install DVD Decrypter, its still available from some sites, and turn off the 'Use Nero' option in DVD Shrink and let DVD Shrink use DVD Decrypter to burn you're DVD's for you

If you want to 'backup' DVD's you'll need to install some decryption software as well, AnyDVD is one of the better ones and is updated very quickly when new DVD protections are released, but you can also try others

DVD Shrink can decrypt some DVD copy protections but not all, and does have soem problems with some DVD's, thats why it can be better to rip them to your computer first, plus its faster and saves you're DVD drive from getting too hot
