it died of over heating :scared: I installed a cool new fan, artic cooling, but it didn't worked as expected. Well, the card is dead and I'm stuck on a voodoo 3 PCI until I get a new one :(

Is there anybody you can blame, beside yourself?

Gives you a chance to get a nice Linux compatible card Sirber! What replacement card are you considering?

ATI is compatible with linux. Well, I don't plan playing games on the PC in the futur, and I don't want to pay 700$+ for a new card. I just need tvout and good 2D for video playback. I think I will get an ATI 9550 128MB AGP from MSI, with no fan.

Not a bad choice, and you'll also notice how good is life with less noise from VGA Card Fan. ;)

I found a powercolor ATI 9800 Pro 128MB, not AIW for 135$. I might get that one so I will not go down in 3D performances.

the 9800 Pro was outdated, had to buy a 9800 Pro AIW at 50% discount for 199$ CAD :(

I'm happy enough with my Gainward (nVIDIA) GeForce FX5200 256MB... At less than £50.00 they are one of the lowest priced 256MB AGP cards you can get!

There's no fan, 1No VGA, 1No DVI-A/D and 1No s-video connector.

lol you people are lucky that ATI is canadian, a 9800pro cant be got anywhere in OZ. if you can get it its probably the best MID budget card

why waste on the fx5200 when u can get an MX :D

Sirber

GF4MX is DX7 only, which is pretty bad. Better get a GF4 TI instead of FX :)

Not to well, after you turned me into a Gentoo fanatic (hehe) i started playing with my 9800 pro, the drivers are horrid! I got better performance out of the fx something low price nvidia card my brother has.

OZ as in Australia? If so, there are quite a few places who stock it lilhobo, for around $180 - $220 AUD. Umart and Gamedude are 2 of them. Use StaticIce (http://www.staticice.com.au) to find the prices.

I love my ATI 9250 for my HTPC! Fully supported under linux, fanless, cheap as chips and great TV Out quality.

I do alot of MS Office Document handling on my PC, and in my spare time from that i tend to game a bit which means i never get to run my Gentoo Desktop either :(.

You know, thinking about it now i would atucally consider a FX5200 for my HTPC. My friend who had a ATI 9250 (mine now!) got all these weird video corruption problems in MCE 2005 which had to be solved by buying himself the FX5200. Mind you, that pricetag of MCE 2005 bundled with a Hauppage 250 MCE really hurts over here..

MCE 2005? Hauppage 250 MCE?

Windows Multimedia Center Edition?

Yeah, sorry for being cryptic. You cant buy Windows Media Center Edition 2005 here alone. You have to buy it bundled with certain hardware requirements. And, a Hauppage 250 MCE capture card bundled with MCE 2005 was the cheapest my friend could find.

As if not use MythTV sirber :D

No problem ;)

I've been using it for over two years now in conjunction with my Sigma Xcard (a dedicated MPEG-1, 2 and 4 hardware card)... but things have moved on quite a bit since the developers revamped it to work with ordinary video cards.

TVedia is constantly being upgraded and has a very good support network. We are currently up to version 3.5 but TVedia 4 promises to be much slicker affair, as it's been totally re-written!

We are on the look out for people who can contribute their skills to improve the product further.... After-all, who wants to be stuck with boring old Windows MultiMedia Center :scared:

@Sirber

Sorry to hear your ATI 9800 Died that sucks. :(

Heh heh, I still have a couple of VooDoo3 cards lying around in my place also both AGP, the VooDoo 3 2000 & the VooDoo 3 3500 with the aweful TV-Breakout lead still they were great cards in their day.

I have a ATI Radeon 9500 Pro and after reading your post. I am getting paranoid. I better run the Vacuum cleaner over it to remove the heavy dust deposit that lies on it. :D
