Whenever I load a DVD or a blank DVD-r/+r into my DVD-RW drive, it seems to take over the system for 10 seconds or so while it tries to read the disc. It doesn't respond to mouse clicks or anything. After about 10 seconds, things are back to normal. It is as if the drive is using all the system's resources for the first several seconds. Not a big problem, but annoying.

Does anyone know why this happens and is there a fix? This is happening on my Lite-On 1633S and it happened on my old Pioneer 2x drive too. (DMA is enabled on the drive so I don't think that is the problem). Thanks.

What buring program do you use? Do you have Nero? It is possible that Nero InCD might be causing a problem, even tho it shouldnt be getting used on DVD's. You could also try turning off Autorun on your drive.

I use Nero, although the problem occurs with any DVD-related program running (like DVDClone), or even with no DVD or CD programs running. Anytime I insert a DVD or CD (recordable-media or store-bought movie DVD or music CD), this happens. Autorun is off.

It is as if XP Home is reading the disc to determine what it is, and while it is doing this, it takes over the system and doesn't allow anything else to happen. This is on a P4 3.2 Mz with 1 gig of RAM, so it should have plenty of resources to do other things while it is reading the disc.

Thanks.
