View Full Version : Hardware Slimtype DVDRW SDW431S Drive Problem?

Well, I'm new, but I figured this was a hardware question, so I'd put in the hardware section. My drive, though it claims it is a DVDRW writable drive, refuses to read the DVDRs I put into it. I'm at a loss here. Do I have to use some kind of program or something to 'unlock' it's brain or something?

I only started backing up DVDs in the last week or so, and this place has been a great help, but I'm starting to run out of room, and would like to be able to put my backups on DVDR instead of CDR so I don't have to cary as many dics with me on my trip.

I'm running Window XP and it says my drive is a Slimtype DVDRW SDW 431S. Also IC25N060ATMR04-0.... Anyway, it can read and write CDR, and read DVDs, but it's brain fries when DVDR is inserted. It also might have problems with transfering larger files to the drive for writing, seeing as one of my finished AVI's is 1.3 GB and it keeps having an 'error' when attempting to transfer. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

chance is, the DVDR you're trying is corrupted. other is your DVD Drives is defective.

can it read other DVDR burned from another Computer?

I haven't tried that, actually... I don't think anyone is still here in my dorm that I can borrow one from either. I'll search around and we'll see, I suppose. If all else fails, I can simply perservere with my poor compys full brain until I go on my trip... I'm sure one of my friends I'm meeting has some. Thanks, though, for the advice!
