Hi folks

So the Divx pro codec comes with a bitrate calculator. As too I know of others around.

My problem is, lets say Im wanting to transcode some vobs into AC3 Divx, and the audio stream is 6ch 48khz 448 Kbs audio.

Is there a bitrate calculator than can handle this? All of them seem to just be based on mp3 or similar 2ch stuff. As a result Im kinda guessing as to my selected bitrate because I cant accurately put in the audio part of it.

ahmm... well honestly i've never used the divx 6 bitrate calculator, BUT even if it only does it for mp3 files (which, honestly would surprise me quite a bit) calculating the difference by hand, wouldn't be too hard.

an example. if you enter a desired audio bitrate of 128kbit (mp3) and you get a resulting video bitrate of, lets say 1100 kbit, you then have a total bitrate of 1228 kbit... now just take the ac3 file into account instead - the 448 kbit - and you'll end up with a 780 kbit video bitrate for the video...

btw, gk supports bitrate calculations with ac3 files... it doesn't supprt divx6 atm though...

I've always found Google to be the most flexible bit rate calculator...

you can type something like this:

4.38GB/114minutes - 448 kbps in kbps

to get:

((4.38 GB) / (114 minutes)) - (448 kbps) = 4 923.65249 kbps

Thanks all

With a fresh head this morning I managed to search and find this on the web:

http://www.divxland.org/bitcalc.htm

It opens up the AC3 file and handles it nice. Its designed for Divx 5 so Ill do an encode and see how close it is.
