View Full Version : Flipping Encore

When transcoding an AVI in Encore 1.5 it seems to flip the video. My current workaround is to wait to see what codecs it uses (which appear in the Windows task bar), stop transcoding and set those to flip output - in effect it precorrects this. I then restart the transcode.
This can be very annoying if I forget. What setting is wrong in Encore - I am transcoding with an automatic setting.
This assumes that transcoding does not freeze at the start - why is this and why when selecting 'Stop' does it stick on 'Cancelling...' which has now happened.

hi Tim Boz,
i ran a search in the adobe users forum and found this:Upside-down footage after transcoding?
Q.
I've been trying to transcode a project exported from Premiere on various settings, and every time I do, the video appears inverted (upside-down and backwards). It's the same no matter what settings I use. Can someone please help?
A.
Have you got a DivX codec installed?
Q.
Yes, I have. Could that be messing it up?
A.
Yes it can. There are quite a few threads about upside down video where the culprit turned out to be a DivX or similar codec. The worst are "codec packs" which hack into the Windows registry and which are very hard to get rid of.
and another answer:
Upside down video is often caused by DivX and similar codecs. The project doesn't have to use assets with a DivX codec, just having it installed on your system is enough to get this problem.

Thanks this does seem to point to the problem, how can I find what codecs I need and don't as I think the problem may be some installed codec packs.
I personally use ffdshow for editting compression.
I use Windows Media Player, Virtual Dub, Virtual VCR, Sonic Record Now, Encore 1.5, Goldwave(audio) and Nero Express.
I have other software which is now virtually un-used.
Some solutions given say reinstall Windows!! This seems to be drastic.
Some say re-install Encore, which I will probably do, though I would like to get rid of faulty or unused codecs anyway - there also seem to be many duplicates.
I am tempted to set a restore point, try and remove suspected codecs (Highlighed by GSpot) and then alter the registry myself (I know its very un-recommended!!!!).
