View Full Version : Using Auto GK with Remote Desktop

If I use AutoGK via Remote Desktop the process always fails (usually due to something like an Avisynth open failure error on the analyzing source step). The error doesn't occur if the job is run directly from the PC itself. I believe the failure is being caused by VirtualDub, but does anyone know a way around this or is just a case of not being able to use it via Remote Desktop?

I use it all the time with RDP, however I usually experience problems when previewing the job because RDP tries to update the frames in sort of real time and that eats lots of bandwidth (and the session becomes irresponsive).

OTOH VNC does not have this problem. You may want to try it.

Thanks. I will probably need to experiment a bit more to see if I can pin down a pattern. The errors I get (and they vary), relate to various files being missing from the agk_tmp folder. I never get the errors when running the program locally. As silly as it sounds, it is almost as if the app is looking for the files on the machine I am running RDT from instead of on the machine the app is actually running on. I don't use preview via RDT (and I won't even try now).

I use it all the time with no problems at all. You mentioned thinking it was looking on your client machine... try connecting without mapping your local drives.

I've solved this problem today. Seven days of headache ;-)

(My operating system is in french so I can't translate exactly the dialog boxes)

Under your Windows XP's client :
1. Launch the "Remote Desktop Client"
2. Click on the button "Options..."
3. Enter the IP Address or the name of the remote computer
4. Enter the user name
5. Enter the password
6. Check the "Remember my password" checkbox
7. Click on the second tab "Afficher" (en français ;-))
8. Choose "Fullscreen" and "24 bits" in the color options
9. On the third tab "Local ressources"
10. Choose the sound and keyboard's options to "distant computer"
11. Uncheck all the checkboxes
12. In the last tab "Advanced"
13. Uncheck all the checkboxes
14. Return on the first tab
15. Choose "Save as..."
16. Give a name (generally the remote computer's name)
17. Save it (on the desktop for example)
18. That's all

Launch the remote access directly from the file you've just saved.

It's working for me. I hope it'll work for you.

I prefer using UltraVNC over RD and find this tool so easy to use.
