View Full Version : Music but hardly any voice?

I've encountered a very strange issue. I've not tested extensively, but at least one of my avi and one of my DVD has the strange behaviour where the music and certain sound effect is loud, but the voices are barely audible.
I thought the avi was the result of poor encoding, but my (original) Battle Royale DVD also has that problem, even though I am sure it was fine before.
I am using Media Player Classic, although the issue seems to persist in Windows Media Player too. I am not sure how to start locating the problem.

the audio track is 6 channels and it isn't being downmixed for playback on 2 speakers :)

Thanks. What you say makes sense, as the sound is only coming from two speakers as well.
I am actually hugely confused about getting my audio setup to work properly.
I am using a 7.1 setup (Creative Gigaworks) through my onboard 5.1 sound card (from my NF7-S V2 sound card). The 5.1 -> 7.1 is hence upmixed and usually not a problem.
But I am not sure how to configure my MPC so that everything uses all or at least most of my speakers. MPC has a "Audio Filter" setting under Option -> Filter. I don't understand the Custom Mapping option: whats the 1, 2, 3,... row?

Thanks. That helped. Just wondering though, what are the LFE settings?

Thanks. That helped. Just wondering though, what are the LFE settings?LFE stands for: Low Frequency Effects... (the very low bass sounds).
When you see the terms, 5.1 (6.1), 7.1 etc... LFE refers to the ".1" bit
Cheers
