I'm finally going to upgrade my burner. Does anyone have any opinion on the new Lite-on? I believe the model is SOHW 1693s
It supposedly burns everything DVD-DL +-R too. all at the latest speeds.
(although I haven't seen any 16x media yet)
Quality is more important for me than speed.
My trusty old Pioneer 103 works great, but really, 2x speed is getting a little ridiculous and I want DL ability too.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

(although I haven't seen any 16x media yet)I have a Maxell DVD+R DL at 24x! But it's not a good one, there are many errors. Use Verbatims DVD+Rs ONLY!
My burner is a Nec ND-3520. It works perfectly, and is considered as one of the best burner to write, but is slow to read DVD files, because there is a speed limit to avoid noise. Of course, there are patched firmwares allowing to rip at max speed.

Reviews lately showed the LiteOn models (since the 1XXX) providing overall less quality on media in comparison to a NEC, or some LGs, in Kprobe scans.
Those do not mean everything however.
But if the NEC models where you live are as cheap as they are here, I see no reason not to get a NEC, them being the cheapest while at the same time providing high quality (not only in Kprobe scans).
And as r0lZ stated, there are patched firmwares. For NEC these seem to be more generally available than for other models.

Thanks guys, for the advice and info. I'm looking into the NEC as I write.
24x? wow, besides not having seen any 16x, I've also never come across DVD DL-R but I read that they are crap. Verbatim it is then.

I think he meant 2.4x
16x is the maximum allowed speed for DVDs.

I've got the latest NEC ND-3540A burner. It's nice. It's also pretty damn cheap. They're just a smidge over $40 from NewEgg. That's where I got mine. These burners just get cheaper and faster every day. :D

16x is the maximum allowed speed for DVDs.Of course, you're right. Damn, the dot is almost invisible on the front cover! Sorry.
