Hi,
I used to do my transcodes with DVDShrink but as I have Nero installed I wonder if there are any advantaged of switching over to Nero Recode. I know they use the same engine but there was no update to DVDShrink since one year and Nero Recode gets updated about every week. I could imagine that the author further optimized the engine in this time (DVDShrink also lacks the so called High Quality Mode, but i havn't really compared the output that close)?
Thanx

If you are looking at quality differences you may want to look at this thread. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91418&highlight=blind+test)

DVD Shrink does NOT lack the high quality mode, it's simply called differently: AEC.

@Northpack
I'd use Recode. It's faster, regularly updated, and allows you to do pretty much the same things as DVD Shrink will. About the only thing you'd be giving up is the ability to decrypt on-the-fly -- but that's not such a loss; Since there's a growing list of DVDs which are protected by bad sectors (and DVD Shrink can't deal with them correctly), it really does pay to use an updated decrypter FIRST, and run the resulting files through Recode. You've got it, which means you paid for it. Why not use it?

@ writersblock29
You should be able to decrypt-on-the-fly if you use www.dvd43.com (freeware)

I didn't think DVD43 was able to handle ARcoSS... but after digging a bit, I guess they've added that. Good to have options!

even the previous version of dvd43 free was able to handle 99% of ARccOss.
