I've always loved SSA, and it makes me really sad that, trying to install it on my Windows XP computer, I get the error

"The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

I downloaded Subtitle Workshop, but it's lacking a lot of the features I liked about SSA. For instance, I don't like to time by AVI videos, I use audio files.

In SSA, it opens it and shows the wavegraph thing, so you can pinpoint dialogue, right and left click for start and end, and then 'grab' the times. Is that feasible in SW? And what about changing the size, font, and position of the scripts?

I really want to use SSA again, so I was hoping someone could help.

You know what, I ran into XombieSub, and it's exactly everything I wanted in a program. I think it was based of SSA, actually. Pity it doesn't seem to have any more developing done on it, or much support.

:thanks:

Hello

To me:
XombieSub doesn't work.
ASS is an upgrage to SSA format (is not a software)
There are another alternatives (with and easy serach at this forum):

- Sabbu 025. http://www.sabbu.com/en/index.html
- ChronoSub_20050625. http://sourceforge.net/projects/medusa/
- Visual Sub Sync 081. http://visualsubsync.corecodec.org/

Note:Medusa is an old for ChronoSub (i think), because both came from Kaiousama.

Bye

PD: USE SEARCH!

Thats right. On the Medusa site on sf.net you find the Cronosub as newest builds. But i hate Cronosub and love the old Medusa much more. So i use Medusa until now.

If you liked SubStation Alpha, then Sabbu 2.5 will feel very much at home. For majority of the tasks, such as timing the script, styling, etc. it works much like the original SSA, including the keyboard shortcuts.

If your looking for the old Medusa, here (http://xoomer.virgilio.it/jbgenov/MEDUSA_0.1.2.0.exe) is a site hosting the last version released. It accepts, mp3 and ogg too. I think the later versions had similar keyboard shortcuts to SSA, but I don't remember SSA anymore. It's not the most stable program. 0.1.2.0 doesn crash much for me, but I still recommend saving your work often

Sabbu looks promising, but it hasn't worked well for me yet. I hope the development continues since that "mark key frame" option looks mighty useful.
