Why there are no hardware players with VP7 or H.264 AVC support? Is it hard to make such kind of players or it's expensive or there are some problems with patents?

With regard to AVC playback in stand-alones, you have to remember that it's still a relatively new technology!

When you take the big four chip-set manufacturers for stand-alone players (ie: ESS, MediaTek, Sigma and Zoran), as far as I know only Sigma has released specifications for their proposed range of AVC capable chip-sets. However, they are still being developed and are not likely to be arrive in hardware devices for a few months.

Unfortunately, there also appears to be a world-wide shortage of high-def capable MPEG-2+MPEG-4/AVC combo chip-sets for digital TV set-top boxes too :(

thinking about that avc is part of hd-dvd and bluray its sure that hardware players supporting avc will come

i doubt that vp7 will be supported anywhere soon
