Single Layer(4.7GB) write speeds
1x (CLV) = about 58 minutes
2x (CLV) = about 29 minutes
2.4x (CLV) = about 24 minutes
4x (CLV) = about 14.5 minutes
6x (CLV/ZCLV) = about 10-12 minutes
8x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 8-10 minutes
12x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 6.5-7.5 minutes
16x (CAV/ZCLV) = about 6-7 minutes

Dual/Double Layer(8.5GB) write speeds
1x CLV = about 105 minutes
2.4x CLV = about 44 minutes
4x CLV = about 27 minutes

Try burning at a lower speed.
You may be getting buffer underruns.

-Buy Verbatim, but only the DVD+R dual layer.

-Use the latest version of DVDDecrypter, but use ISO mode to rip, and then use ISO mode to write.

-Burn at 2.4X.

-Check your players (your standalone units) to make sure they are capable of handling dual layer discs. You can do this over the Videohelp.com, to check two important things -- 1- what the specs for your player claim, about its ability to handle dual layer media, and also 2- what other owners of your same model have reported, regarding their actual experiences in playing dual layer media on that player.

-Bruce

I would avoid using -R DL and only use +R DL.

See this thread about -R DL:

Nero is well known to burn DL coasters. Try PgcEdit's burn function. It works fine to burn DVD-Video files (not ISOs).
PgcEdit uses MKISOFS (the same software that is used by ImgTool Classic) to create the ISO and DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO. Unlike ImgTool, there is an interface to select the layer break position, with preview.
Have a look at the DL burning guide, available on my homepage.

Sorry for making my promo here, but I know for sure that PgcEdit works to burn DL discs, at least with +Rs, and even, if you really wants so, with -Rs (although in this case, there are still some things to confirm.)

Also, if your burner supports bitsetting (aka booktypes), you should force the booktype to DVD-ROM.
