As some of you may already know there is now a shareware version DivxToDVD (2.0). This new shareware version is still in its Release candidate stage. However compared to its free version (0.5) it has a whole new interface, supports subtitles and has its own burning engine.

Of corse the free version will still be made available from http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm ---see DivxToDVD and look at last line (there you will see in small prind a link to free version download)

By the way: The trial version of the release candidate has a watermark that slows down the application increadily (more than twice as much). All registered/purchase versions, are of course watermark free and significantly faster. For the "real" release of v2.0 the trial version will change so that the first week will be free of any contraint, i.e. no watermark, fast speed, all burning capabilities, etc, so that users can see what application is really capable of. The second week the watermark will appear on the application unfortunately having the effect of slowing the application down.

Cheers

Hi Claire,

While testing DivXtoDVD.exe 1.99.11.28 using NeroDigital (Recode2) sources, I noticed the following: -It can't detect VobSub subtitle streams.
It can't correctly decode 6Ch AAC audio streams. Resulting in incorrectly mapped 6Ch AC3 (@ 448Kbps) streams - It's still a very impressive idea though ;)
It can't correctly decode AAC-HE audio streams (it thinks they are AAC-LC). Resulting in "half speed", conversions to AC3Also, is there any particular reason why DivXtoDVD creates an entire copy of the source file?

Cheers

EDIT: Here are the 6Ch AAC to 6Ch AC3 "Speaker Mapping" test results: -

"Left Front" source comes out the "Right Front" speaker
"Center Front" source comes out of the "Right Front" (and is garbled) speaker
"Right Front" source comes out of the "Centre Front" speaker
"Right Surround" source comes out of the "Right Surround" speaker
"Left Surround" source comes out of the "Left Front" speaker
"LFE" source is not detectable

Hello SeeMoreDigital,

I appreciate your tests. I will pass on your results to the VSO programmers, this will certainly be of help.

I can only respond to your question about the source files:

First of all this is an option (which can be checked off or one)

see under setting/Burning
"add original files if possible" (possible meaning if enough space is left)

This is just a extra bonus tool for the user. This way on the burnt disc you also have the originals/// a good backup, in case . . . .whatever

This all depends on users, and how they manage their files. A good example where VSO has this option to add source files is the software PhotoDVD. PhotoDVD creates animated slideshow of your digital pictures and burns it to DVD---which is great for those who want the slideshow, but say for example it is a gift to the grandparents or something, with the orignal files (photos) on the DVD they can take that to a store and have one photo reproduced, englarged so they can frame it and put it on the wall.

Or user can simply take digital pictures off harddrive now that he has a back up of sources on DVD (as well as a slideshow!).

Well, that is a little explaination, don't know if it helps much.

If you do any more tests please let me you, you or other Doom 9 crusers/surfers. I will try to get a confirmation on the bugs you reported and let you know are progression on them.

Cheers
