View Full Version : OGM playback troubles: 1. Ogg audio stutters, 2. Can't switch audio even w/ MMswitch

I'm so frustrated...

I hope someone can help point me in the right direction. I've been trying to install the necessary filters for OGM playback. Until recently, all the OGMs I've encoded have been playing fine on my computer. I've been using VLC Player to play the OGM files 'cause I didn't want to mess around with codecs/filters, especially since only less than 1/3 of my backups are put into an OGM container.

Well I've encountered a few problematic OGMs now, where the audio will have tiny skips or stutter. Nothing is out of sync, it's just a blip of sound distortion that occurs every few seconds, and it sounds especially bad when there is music and not just dialogue. (BTW, I use BeSweet to transcode audio to Ogg Vorbis, and GKnot to create the OGMs w/ Xvid video)

So, I thought I ought to test it outside of VLC Player to see if the stutter is happening all the time. Tonight I installed Radlight Ogg Splitter and CoreVorbis Audio Decoder. While this does allow me to open the Ogm files in another player like Windows Media Player, I just can't figure out why it is now playing both of the audio streams simultaneously, or where/how the heck I can choose to play only one stream. :( This leaves me still unsure of whether the audio stutter is happening outside of VLC.

I suppose I'll sleep on this and maybe I can figure it out tomorrow, but this is frustrating the hell outta me right now, so here's a plea for help. If anyone could kindly provide some tips for either of these 2 problems I'm having with the OGM audio, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, everyone.

or you try another ogm splitter, like oggds, which includes a stream splitter itself

Thanks, bond, for the reply.

Of course :o , I completely forgot about needing a stream switcher. I went ahead and tried MMswitch which does play only the primary audio, but for some reason when I try to switch to the secondary audio stream, all audio is completely silenced, even when I switch back to the primary stream. I tried this with both Windows Media Player and Zoomplayer, and the same problem occurs.

I suppose on the plus side I've now clearly determined that there is no distortion or stuttering in the primary audio stream outside of VLC. Ugh.

Also, I may need to start a new topic for this, but now the subtitles also aren't displaying properly, despite repeated attempts at configuring DirectVobSub to always load. I'm able to get external subtitles to display, but the internal subtitles inside the OGM file just don't display at all. :scared:

you can also try a player with an inbuilt audio switcher, like MPC
