Hey guys ,

I'm looking to buy a new DVD player that will play pretty much everything. I have a slot-load RCA DRC310N DVD player that only really plays DVD+R. But I was looking for advice from you guys for a new one. You know, something I can rely on to play different media formats. Not just for DVD, but for music media and other formats.

Im sure you know what I mean, I'm looking for a really good one! Thanks for any advice you may have.

If you're after a standard-def device and have a limited budget, then I would go for one of the NeroDigital certified (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94538) stand-alone players. Which have the advantage of being able to spin Mpeg4 video within both the .AVI and .MP4 containers.

Although I have not tried any of these players myself, the Siemssen SCO 5000 ND looks to have a very good specification and offers support for Qpel.

If you have a bit more money to spend and can wait a while longer, Zensonic will be releasing their Z500 device. At the time of writing this stand-alone player will be the first to offer playback of high-def content encoded in MPEG-1/2/4 and WMV9 together with NeroDigital certification. And hopefully support for the Matroska container(s). It even offers network (via EtherNet or wireless) connectivity :)

Cheers

Hey thanks for the advice SeeMoreDigital, they both sound really great. The Z500 device sounds like the best choice. I got plenty of money, so I might look into that one.

Would these players work just as well in the US, or would there be compatabity issues ? ( newbie )

:thanks:

Zensonic have set up their own forum for the Z500 (http://www.z500series.com/forum/index.php?), where you should find answers to many of your questions.

That said yes, Zensonic do indeed plan to launch the Z500 in the US.
