I need some help with DVD ripping.
First, I was searching the forum and came across this thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=674495#post674495.
I downloaded the mplayer file for my setup as suggested by Doom9, problem is, do not recognize the file extension mplayer2005.06.28.Athlon-64.7z!!! What is .7z, is it a b7zip, is it a Linux version?
I have been attempting to compile and make DVD ripping software, but run into problems with make. Seems my 64bit version of Linux has different enviroment-variables than the 32bit. Some rippers I have been able to install, but they will not recognize paths to codecs, libraries or any support applications.
Now that I see a version that could be compatable to my system, I cannot execute the binary. Anybody got any ideas? Sure could use the help> :(

Um, the file you downloaded is for Windows. You should try to find what you need from www.mplayerhq.hu. They got binaries, source code and codecs you need to run it on linux. You might wanna take that daily cvs snapshot sourcecode version and compile it yourself. They got instructions for that too.

Thanks, I finally discovered that fact.
I have mplayer installed, it works okay, but the rippers that depend on mencoder, transcode, libdvdread and so on, do not seem to recognize all things needed, are installed. I have tried DVD::Rip, dvdencode, acidrip, you name it. Most would not compile, and if they did, after being installed, they would not run, or would not be able to find all necessary libraries to function.
I suspect it is do to the distros x86_64 environment variables, but I do not yet know how to identify nor correct them.

I would use a package manager to get all the stuff you need. Yum or apt or The Smart Package Manager (my current favorite). Apt currently has problems on dual architecture systems (like AMD64). I've had no trouble with Yum or Smart PM. You can use the Yumex GUI with Yum. However, you do it, just select the package "perl-Video-DVDRip" to install. Yum / SPM will then find all the stuff it needs and install it all. I've got the x86_64 version of it installed under Fedora Core 3 just fine. It's easier than trying to build it all yourself. :D

Thanks Joe, I have been using Yumex to get everything as rpm, but still have the same problems when it lists the dependencies. Just doen't seem to find what is already there.
Maybe I should try The Smart Package Manager, it might help solve some of the links not being found.

Found a solution, downloaded mplayer/mencoder rpm with yum, Either freshrpm or livna, do not remember. Think it is availble in both repositories.
