I have had Nero Recode for months and I have NEVER got it to encode anything that was ripped with DVD Decrypter. Funny think is that I look on the web and it does not look like others are having the same problems that I am.
I am using the latest verion of Recode and DVD Decrypter. When I rip the DVD using IFO mode I get this error:
"There are no more files."
And when I rip the DVD using File mode I get:
"The data area passed to a system call is too small"
I have no problems ripping and using the files with AutoGK, Dr. Divx, avi.net or Converter.
OK what is the secret??

Your problem is not Nero Digital. Its with DVDecrypter. Dont know how to solves your problem but your subject suggest the problem is with ND and it is not. Plus your question needs to be in the ripping forum.

I can take the same rip and feed it into avi.net, dr. divx, or autogk and it works so I think the problem is related to Nero Digital or something special you need to do to rip for Nero Digital.

I have used DVDD in ISO read mode and Recode many times for my kids movies.
No problems @ all.
What disk are you ripping? Is it one of the newer protected disks? Are you using the default settings in DVDD?

The movies are my personal copies of Ray and National Treas. In the ISO mode I am now able to convert but I must select each vob (in the movie mode) (I can't select the directory) and the result is a mp4 file for each vob. I don't see any option to join the files.

How about ripping it in one .iso file on your computer. Then download program called Daemon Tools and load that .iso with that one. Your movie should with nero work after that.

I guess I could try that, but I don't think I need another tool. Something I am doing must be wrong, or there must be a special way to rip the files so it will work with ND. Others have got it to work.

Nero Recode + DVD Decrypter have never given me problems. I just select the VOB and I'm off running.
Can you use Nero Recode on files other than those obtained by DVD Decrypter? MPEG2 files recorded at home? Files from SmartRipper?

I tell you, there's something weird with Recode. I've had a similar experience. The first time I ever tried Recode, maybe 6 or 8 months ago, the program absolutely would NOT take files on my hard drive ripped with ... well I don't know for sure what I ripped it with but it was probably Decrypter. It just wouldn't even see them in the directory. The only thing I could get it to do was back up directly from the disc in the physical drive, and so I had to use AnyDVD. I pretty much quit using Recode right there and then.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I'm playing with Recode and for some reason I decided to drag and drop an AviSynth file in, and son of a gun it worked! I had sworn that I'd read somewhere explicitly that Recode wouldn't do that. But it accepted the file just darn fine.
Am I the only one who's done that?
Anyway ... I think there are definitely some weird inconsistencies in Recode's behavior.

Ok, just to add to my own thoughts about Recode being weird ...
So after my above post I decided to fool around with Recode some more. I dropped in a script for a full movie and played with the settings. The AR in my original AVI was a bit off what it should be, so I thought I'd try resizing in Recode. For some reason, even when you check the "custom resize" option, I just cannot get Recode to accept my resize settings even though they were definitely multiples of 16. This was true whether or not "letterboxing" was checked. It would only do them automatically at 672x368.
Ug. Then I realized that 672x368 actually did produce a proper AR so I thought I'd just go with it, but since I was just doing a test encode and didn't want to wait all night I exited out, added a simple Trim command in the script so that the file would only be 2 min. long, and dropped it back in Recode. I went back to where I was and for some reason now Recode wants to resize ONLY to 656x368. I absolutely cannot get it to change.
I don't see how anyone works with this program :)

If you have the "Nero 6 Ultra Edtion" use the "Nero ImageDrive" to mount the ripped ISO image and proceed from there.
After I rip with DVDD in ISO mode I mount the ISO in the Virtual Drive, then open Recode and proceed from there.

I tired it with SmartRipper and it worked in the Backup Mode. What is up with that?

Let me start with a really easy question. When I am ripping using DVD Decrypter should I be using the File, IFO or ISO method to get it to work with ND Encode?
What options should I have set up for this method?

With an ISO you have the complete image to work with, this is the prefered method.
Just be sure to mount it in a virtual drive to further process.

use the file mode in decrypter and rip to a VIDEO_TS folder. Then Nero will identify your hdd backup as a dvd and process it. It is important to name the folder VIDEO TS and there should be nothing in the same directory (except an AUDIO_TS which you do not need). or as already mentioned by others rip in iso mode and use d-tools to mount the iso.

I tried ripping in the file mode and putting all the files in a folder called VIDEO_TS and when I select the folder it says:
Nero Recode 2 encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to open the file VT_01_1.VOB
The data area passed to a a system call is too small.
The file VTS_01_1.VOB is in that directory
How can this be this hard????

I've always found it easier to use Shrink with DVDD without any problems, and it's free.

Shrink does not encode in mpeg4 which is what he is trying to do.
Make sure you have the latest updated version of Nero.
Seems like they update every month and with those huge files to download.
OK using a short test mpeg2 that was ripped with DVDD in ISO mode and mounted in the "Nero ImageDrive" which is a virtual drive. I have just this moment encoded the mpeg2 in Nero Digital(mpeg4) with no problems. I now have a short Mpeg4 on my hard drive.
I suggest you Use your Nero ImageDrive!
What OS do you have? XP?
The more info you give, the more info you get.
It works for me, I hope you get this fixed!
