I have been looking extensively and read posts for a way to transfer XvID MPEG4 HiDef Video to MPEG2. There is barely information on TS. I am proficient at manipulating MPEG2 video but all the programs stop working at anything above 720X480. All the tradicional methods are almost extinct.

TMPGEnc 2.5, TMPGEnc 3.0 xPress, CCE (any version), MainConcept MPEG encoder won't encode at 1280X720 or much less at 1980X1080. I was trying for a way to convert to TS files so I can watch using my "My HD card MDP-130".

The only option I saw was Adobe Premier Pro 1.5 with the plug in for HD video. Womble MPEG 2 VCR is great for cutting, joining and outputting TS files.

What program can encode MPEG2 at 1280X720? Am I the onlyone trying to use their HD Card this way? Please help.

Have you tried one of the libavcodec based Encoders (HC Encoder / QuEnc etc.)? I just tested QuEnc 0.61 with an AviSynth script (ColorBars(1280,720).ConvertToYV12().Trim(0,100)) and it worked. 1920x1080 worked aswell. Take a look here http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=62

Thanks Communist. I did however, read a post at videohelp.com and they guided me how to encode HDTV MPEG2 using both TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 and Main Concept.

I am using the following
- TMPGEnc 2.58 Plus
- Main Concept Mpeg Encoder 1.4.2

By default they will come ready to encode at DVD quality or less but you can override them to encode at Hi Def resolution. To override in:

TMPGEnc 2.58 Plus
1. Go to Settings -> change the "Profile & Level" to "High Profile & High Level".
2. Change the Size to your desired 1280X720 or 1920X1080

Main Concept Mpeg Encoder 1.4.2
1. Go to Details -> Advanced -> Select the "Advanced Video Settings" Tab.
2. Change the Profile ID to "High Profile"
3. Change the Level ID to "High Level"

After the following steps you are free to change the resolution to Hi Def. To mention that in order to encode Xvid MPEG 4 you must first load the codec so it is available in Direct Show so both programs know how to decode them.

AC-3 Audio to strip the audio from the Xvid encode go to Virtual Dub and open the file. Then
1. Go to File -> Save Wave
2. It will save the AC-3 Audio with the wrong extention. Now change the file extention from .wav to .ac3
3. Open the file in HeadAC3he
4. Click on "Options"
If your source is 6 Ch audio (ex. 5.1 DD) then make sure the output channels include all six audio streams.
5. Click on "Options" so you go back to the original menu
6. Destination Format = WAV , 16 BIT
7. click "Start"
8. Open Sound Forge Soft Encode 1.0
9. File -> Open
10. Compress to AC-3

If you don't want to recompress you can stop at step #2 but I usually increase the volume since it is almost always too low then recompress. Also that way you know that your AC-3 is free of errors (capturing errors, like bad reception, drop outs, etc...)

I have not yet tested MPEG 2 settings or encoders but when I have some info I'll post it here. Feel free to share your experiences.
