View Full Version : Convert VOBs to AVI

I'm trying to convert a VIDEO_TS folder to AVI files. I haven't had much luck with WinAVI. First thing, it reports that the RealMedia Codec v 9 is not
installed, though Windows Media Player 10 is installed.

If I step past the warning and select Video_ts.ifo, and try to proceed,
it reports "Can not render the graph, please make sure that your media file can be played by Windows Meida Player" (yes, it spells it 'meida').

There may be something to this latter warning, as WMP doesn't play
the video from the VOB sets. It does play audio. Not sure if that's
an error in the MS codecs or not, but I've tried updating MS codecs.

What's next? Load more codecs? Find another program?

Thanks

it reports that the RealMedia Codec v 9 is not installed, though Windows Media Player 10 is installed. ??? RealMedia has nothing to do with Windows Media Player, different programs/companies.

select Video_ts.ifo, and try to proceed ??? An IFO file is not a VIDEO file.

You really need to read some guides, go to doom9's main page and check out the guides.

No, RM doesn't have a direct connection to WMP except in the mind of WinAVI. The WinAVI program's full message is: "[not installed] Realmedia Codec 9 or higher. Make sure that the video file can be perfectly played by the latest version of Windows Media Player!"...etc. This would seem to imply that they are related in the mind of WinAVI, or at least that WinAVI thinks that WMP is going to use the RM Codec.

Re IFO vs VOB: I do know the difference. I'm not looking to convert just one VOB file...I want to convert the entire on-disk DVD image in VIDEO_TS. When, for instance, PowerDVD loads up the master list, it defaults to loading IFO files (In fact, the menu for on-disk DVD's allows selecting on *.IFO).
The VIDEO_TS.IFO file serves as the startup template for the entire set.

So the Q's remain:
Which codecs will make WinAVI happy?
Is there a procedure that will convert the VIDEO_TS folder via WinAVI?
Are there better programs for doing this? WinAVI seems flakey.

You can ignore the RealMedia error in WinAVI unless you intend to encode to that format. WinAVI works well for me.
