View Full Version : Changing subtitle transparency values in IFO files!?

Greetings everyone,

I have been visiting these forums so many times before. Finally I guess is time to post myself about a puzzeling question indeed. ^-^

So, my problem:

I am working with DVD-Lab Pro to author DVDs, however, one BIG disadvantage of this program is, that you are only alloed to use 2 different colors (white and yellow + shadow{black 30% or something}) for subtitles... which is BAD for me. :(
So, I already came up with the glorious idea of using IfoEdit to just change the color palette of the IFO file after compiling the final DVD.
I changed the color of the reserved SHADOW color in the pallette in order to use that one as second color... however, I cant seem to change the TRANSPARENCY value of that damn shadow color in the palette by any means! >_< Meaning, I could use this color as secondary color now, but its still transparent. ;_;

So now, does anyone know how to solve this? Is there a way to change the transparency (or is this written into the VOB directly?) or can I maybe change the "used colors" from the global palette? Meaning, telling the DVD not to use color no.8 (in this example, which is the transparent black for the shadows) but another color in the palette?

Really any help in this matter would be highly appreciated!!

Thanks a lot in advance,
DarkSol

Another approach (IMO a lot easier,too) would be to use SubtitleCreator instead of DVDLab... :)

See this post regarding the 2 colour subtitles issue in DVDLab vs. SubtitleCreator: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=95904

Hi cons, thanks a lot for your answer and attempt to help me! :D Much appreciated. ^_^

However, as for Subtitle Creator, I took a look at it... but, my problem is, that I need to import BMP subtitles (or detailed SSA scripts), and as far as I could see, Subtitle Creator only supports SRT formats and such, no?

Sadly, I require a lot of special effects and tweaks for my subtitles. ^_^ Thus, I definitely would need complete control over my subtitle colors... which DVD-Lab wont give me. ;__;

Looks like I will have to live with just one subtitle font color for now after all, huh? :(

See you later,
DarkSol

Transparency information is stored in the vobs, so it cannot be changed by fiddling with the Ifos.

Heya, thx Matthew. Ah, thats what I feared... so the transparency info is stored in the vobs after all... -_-
Well, looks like its time to write mediance soft an email about how much I dislike their extreme limitations to the subtitle coloring (and timing as well, btw)!

Thx for the help,
DarkSol

Right but U may be able to change the subs color very easily with PGCEdit.
Choose the main movie, double click and U'll see subs color on the left side of the windows. U may change them as U like.
Srt2sup will also allow U to make some changes to the lines U wish but it's a very time consuming process.
