Hello,
I am puzzled even after reading all the guides on converting .srt files to .xsub files. The real issue is I would like to display subtitles on a divx .avi file. All my subtitle files are in the .srt format. How can I manipulate the .srt file so it will show on the .avi (Divx File)?
Thank You For Your Time,

:thanks:

Assuming that you don't want to harcode the subtitles in your avi file, you can use vlc or mpc. Those 2 players have the option to load a srt file with the avi.

Sorry, but I forgot to add that, I want the .avi file to run off of Divx and want the subtitles to show.

In this case, I can't help you directly as I never did hardcode subs.
But I think there was a thread lately on this, it implies to have a
filter for virtualdub and you can "save" your avi file and the subs.

HI there. I'm new to this forum, but you need to be clearer. What do you mean by "run off of divx"? Do you mean the DivX player? Why not try MediaPlayerClassic or VLC player? The thing is, if you want to have permanent, UNERASABLE subs on your avi, then you're going to have to use VirtualDub, use the srt plug in and recompress your file. This will worsen the quality. So, why use the amazing abilities of these players to use external subs and save yourself all the trouble of recompression and worse quality.
Best of luck.

It's possible to do what you want.
I created my dvd's using Cinema Craft Encoder and Vobsub, so converting avi to mpeg2.
While encoding, vobsub would insert the subs into the encoding process, so afterwards i had this dvd-quality mpeg2 with subs.
So instead of converting to mpeg2, convert to avi again.. I think that should do the trick..
I guess this can be done with other encoders too, just make sure Vobsub has the sub loaded.
