matroska Codec Pack / Haali Media Splitter help

Anybody knows how to use Haali Media Splitter?

I don't really know how to change the settings to my preferred settings so that whenever i double click it, it will have Jap audio and eng subtitles.

if i right click the Haali Logo, i get

A: [English]

No Subtitiles

Okay. the problem is that i can't get it to always play "S: Japanese Audio Subtitles [English] ".
I managed to get the Japanese audio to play always.


Under options/Languages, There are 3 tabs


Audio Language Priority (Instructions: a comma seperated list of three letter language codes)

Subtitle Language Priority (Instructions: a comma seperated list of three letter language codes)

Audio and Subtitle Priority (Instructions: a semi-colon seperated list of three letter language pairs. The splitter will select one of these pairs first before trying separate audio and sub list.
Example: jpn,eng;jpn,rus;eng,eng; )

Okay so i tried entering "jpn" for Audio Language Priority and "eng" for Subtitle Language Priority.
But to no avail.
SO i removed them and tried "jpn,eng;" for Audio and Subtitle Priority.
The audio becomes Japanese automatically but the subtitles still remain at "S: English Audio Subtitles [English] ". And i have to manually select myself.
I feel that there's a conflict between :

S: English Audio Subtitles [English]
S: Japanese Audio Subtitles [English]

As both are ENGLISH.
is is the reason for the problem?

I got the media splitter from a codec pack http://packs.matroska.org/. Matroska Pack Full v1.1.1 (2005-05-23) .

Why, yes it is :)
As both are english tagged, it will select the first(top) subtitle stream by default. 3 options:
a) remux the file with the japanese audio srt on top of the other
b) tick the "make default track" box when remuxing the file for the japanese audio subtitle
c) give an esoteric and obscure language tag to this track and all tracks like this you want to play back in priority (like zulu); then set it in the audio and sub priority box, before the jap,eng line.

Either ways you need to remux it to have it work properly. (it's a very fast process, couple of minutes at the very max)

edit: if the english audio track is, in fact, japanese (and not english) subtitles (twisted ways of naming the things if you ask me), then label it at remux with a jap tag :)

I have a similar problem. Often, there is a film with English and Russian soundtrack, but sometimes Russian track is genuine dubbing, and sometimes it is original soundtrack with added translation by voice, or even voice translation only. I like dubbing and don't like voice translation, and I am also studying English.
So, my preferences are: 1) dubbing w/o subtitles, 2) any language (except translation; original language preferred) with Russian subtitles, 3) English with English subtitles, 4) original language with Russian voice translation, 5) two separate soundtracks (original language and Russian translation) simultaneously.
How can I do this selection? And how can I hear more than one track simultaneously? IMHO that feature will be very useful...

I was hoping to see a solution to my problem in this thread. Not so. :-(

Anyway, I have a properly tagged MKV file. I have the current Haali splitter. I have VSFilter installed. Things play fine and I can switch tracks with the tray app with no problems.

But, I have my defaults set to jpn,eng for audio/subs. The files are properly tagged looking at the info in MKVToolnix. But the settings just don't stick at all, in fact the language settings in the Haali filter don't seem to have any effect what so ever.

I'm running the nov 25th build of the splitter.
VSFilter is 2.37

The reason I really want these default settings to stick and work is that I have this stuff working XP Media Center which is what I run in the home theater. Having to futz around with the tray app is a PITA in that environment.

P.S. Edit: I just re-muxed a file, setting JPN as the default language and when the file plays it default to ENGLISH. Loading the file into the MKVToolnix front end shows the file had JPN for default audio. WTF?

Are you sure you have correct settings in the splitter? Audio&subtitle languages override the other two fields.

Yes, I'm sure. Audio lang set tp jpn, sublang set to eng.

I just used mkvmerge and a batch file to re-order the tracks to get japanese audio by default. I did have to re-order the tracks, setting JPN to default was not enough. No biggie.

Now I have an issue (not a splitter problem) where text/ass subs result in no video in media center while text/ssa subs work fine. Yay! Should be fun to debug.

Also note that there was a bug fixed a couple of months ago that prevented the Audio languages field from working.
