I Encode a DVD in VFW x.264 and have a problem
After ~134k frames in stats every frame is i frame & other params is 0 or low
I test it two times with same result

Config P4 2,6HT, 1Gb, Win XP SP2

x.264 settings
2 threads, 12ref fr, 3bfr, deblocking -2,-2, Bitr Var 80%, 8x8 - other by default

Maybe it's Hyperthreading error?

Sorry for poor english

weird. however, lower your reference frames... 5 are enaugh for EVERY situation.

Sorry i don't use CLI versions (what a shame :( ) However i work only with VDMod + VFW ver of x.264. I test it on ver 263 & 265 - maybe ver 270 work good but i don't have a time to test it. Maybe monday i gonna rip something and share the result.

I test it 4 times - seems like it's a Hyperthreading eror. When i set 2 threads on frame 131072 coding failure :( With same settings on 1 thread - all goes normal. Maybe on Northwood processors hyperthreading more buggy than on Presscot? :(

upload a small part of the source you use which shows the problem, so we can try to reproduce the error

I use 3 different DVD and i succesfully rip 2 of them in 1 thread mode (don't have time now on 3). I don't think this problem is in source. And number of 128k frames is strange. So you may reproduce it on any Northwood P4 machine i think. After 128k frames coding is going fast & in stats file only i frames with 0 values.

How is that ?
In the configuration dialog box, click 'Advanced'. You should see a box called 'Max ref frames'. Default for it is 1, looks like you have set yours to 12. Sharktooth was asking you to lower it to 5 or below.
