The new sony cameras (like HC-90 and others) allow recording of 4 audio channels simultaneously (two front and two rear channels) on the 4 DV channels recorded at 12 bit (32 KHz).

The sony documentation says that You can then transfer the 4 channels to the PC and make a DVD using the "Click 2 DVD" sony application that is available only to woners of Sony Vaio Computers.

Does someone understand how these 4 audio channels can be transferred in one pass using firewire ? Is there any sofware available to do so ? Any help or hint would be really appreciated.

Capture it just as you capture normal DV streams? Recording 4 channels at lower resolution is defined in the DV standard and should work. If you're doing it with a NLE software make sure to set it to 4 channels / 32kHz / 12bit.

Hello,

just a question: Finally what is the interest?

Communist,

While recording 4 channels is part of the standard, I am unable to transfer these 4 channels unsing firewire. The camera is set to 4 channels recording.

My NLE software is Adobe Premiere. Whatever I try to do, even when transfering in 12 bit 32 KHz, I get only 2 stereo channels. This is confirmed by the camera which has a "fader" setting that allows you to decide how to mix front /rear channels into a unique pair of stereo channels.

The interest is to produce 5.1 AC3 encoded audio.

Any additional hints ?
