Howdy Folks,

I've been trying to apply filters to just selected portions of an .avi file and have only succeeded in going home with my tail between my legs and a bloody nose.

I started with an .avi that was too dark. I applied filters and rendered the clip. So far, so good. However, there is a short segment of video in the middle of the clip that needed additional "lightening". I adjusted the filters for the area of concern and then masked the areas before and after the segment I wanted affected. When the clip was rendered, the masked areas stayed locked to the first frame. Needless to say, this wasn't what I expected or hoped for.

I also tried using the video range offset controls and didn't fare well with that either. In fact, that was even a bigger disaster.

Hopefully, one of you Virtual Dub savy individuals can tell me where I'm going wrong. Help!

Thanks, neuron2, I have downloaded the filter and printed out the various documentation that was available. After I have digested the step-by-step instructions, etc., I'll give the conditional filter a try. I appreciate the timely response.

It would not have ever occurred to me that there was a filter to control a filter. My gratitude to Avery Lee for the creation and free dissemination of Virtual Dub prevents me from suggesting anything that might be construed as critical. It did, however, seem strange to me that the application of filtering didn't provide an option to "apply filters to selected area only". I had been getting around the problem by cutting up the file, filtering them individually, and then rejoining them after all the processing had been complete. Yeah, that's an unsophisticated approach, but it did have one redeeming value: it worked.

Thanks again. After I have jumped in the ring and gone a few rounds with your contitional filter, I'll report back and let you know how I fared.
