I am trying to use FitCD to generate an AVS script. I have a perfect 16:9 1.7778 aspect PAL AVI file. If I read it in and tell the program that the output source is PAL and DVD720, it still tries to add borders of 64 pixels on top and bottom. Shouldn't a 16:9 video have no additional borders? Does FitCD actually understand 16:9 or only 4:3?
Thanks.

FitCD definitely supports calculations using both 16:9 and 4:3 source and output aspect ratios.
Do you maybe have the overscan option enabled? This adds a border to all sides to account for the overscan of the tv. The idea is that if you lose a few pixels on the edges then why bother using them for the picture? By replacing this with black instead it saves some bits.

Hi-
I think the thread title might more accurately be FitCD Incorrect Usage. :)
So just what is the resolution of this perfect 1.778:1 AVI, because I don't think I've seen one. 512x288 will do it, but that's a pretty low resolution. Anyway, assuming it's a 1:1 AVI, and wasn't encoded anamorphically to begin with (they ordinarily aren't encoded with 16:9 or 4:3 DARs), then after you open it you make 1:1 Monitor appear just to the right. Then below and to the left you might tick the PAL and ITU boxes, but leave the other 2 boxes blank (Don't tick Anamorphic). Then to the right, by Destination, it's DVD 720, and below, check PAL and Anamorphic. If you want to allow for Blocks Overscan, then you can, but I wouldn't.
Does FitCD actually understand 16:9 or only 4:3?
As I stated, most AVIs are neither.

Thank you both for the reply, and for the astute observation by manono. Yes, I agree this seems to be more a lack of my understanding of the program so the title was inappropriate and I find the program very useful now. One question on the 16:9 or 4:3 thing. How are you physically telling FitCD that you will be encoding to 16:9 or 4:3? Is not the resizing settings going to be different if you are fitting to 4:3 or 16:9? Do I just set for what it says and then in my encoding software pick 16:9 or 4:3? Thanks for the help.

Hi-
If you're going to encode for 16:9, then check the "Anamorphic" box below Destination. If you're encoding for 4:3, then leave it unchecked. You can fool around checking and unchecking the box to see how the Resize, the AddBorders, and the picture change.
