i know how to convert hdtv capture to xvid of using an easy AutoGK. the hdtv capture seem to be bigger than digital and the quality seem to worse than digital in result of encoding to xvid/divx file.

quality vs size
digital channel 40min to xvid size 500mb = quality avarage (not as original)
digital 40min encode to an xvid size 350mb = the quality is worse
High difinition channel 40min to an xvid size 350mb = the quality is worse

maybe you know the tvshows torrents are high quality encoded. those shows around 40min encoded to an about 350mb size with high quality. it just like an 120min movie encode to an 700mb xvid with high quality.

i just wonder what software they use to encode?

Three comments:

1) Careful, you're bordering on a touchy subject. Just a friendly tip.

2) Yes, I know what you mean. I always thought the target bitrate should be ~.25bpp, but some 'certain' videos found online look good down at .17-.18bpp. No idea how they do it.

3) This question should be asked in the DivX or XviD forums, since it's really about encoding to DivX or XviD

Why encode the high quality MPEG2 HD .ts file to an MPEG4? Just wondering why do this process? Apart from file size why keep it in MPEG4?

Watch the MPEG4 on your computer monitor? or what do you do after the encode? How do you watch your video?

He might be trying to circumvent the rules, but then again he might just be asking for tips on how to improve his HDTV captures and not how to process illegal downloads. How about just suggesting him some of the most popular filters people around here use in their HDTV captures?
