View Full Version : VDubMod gives me issues when trying to load an FFDShow HuffYV12 stream

I am trying to make an SVCD out if a severely crappy source. Due to the amount of filtering needed and my computer speed (Sempron 2200+), the process was going to take about 48 hours, so I decided to make a filtered HuffYUV version first. While looking for field threshold settings in the forum, I read some mentions of FFDShow's version which allows for YV12 and some extra compression tricks. Having only about 12GB free, I decided to go that route. The problem is that when I try to check out the result in VDubMod, I get a "couldn't find a decompressor" error message. I have HuffYUV CCESP Patch v025, but obviously that doesn't help out at all. Where can I download an actual codec for the FFDShow version so that I can load my filtered clip into CCE?

ffdshow should handle it fine itself. If the fourCC is the same as sused by HuffYUV CCESP Patch v025 then ffdshow won't get a chance to load though. Try removing HuffYUV CCESP Patch v025.

When I try to uninstall HuffYUV CCESP Patch v025 from Add/Remove programs, Windows says that the program has already been uninstalled and merely removes its position on the list. When I open VDubMod and check the "Compression" portion, the codec is still available. What are the manual steps for uninstalling the codec and unregistering the FourCC?

Hello Chainmax,
Did you try to install the version 2.1.1 with DX81_YUV_FIX_PATCH_HUFFYUV?
You will be able to use this version temporarily...
Make un test..

During installation, Huff 025 puts wrong uninstall string in the registry (tested on several machines). Closest I've came to correcting the string is:
rundll32.exe setup.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultUninstall 132 C:\WINDOWS\INF\HUFFYUV.INF
(I don't know if the forum software will wrap the above line). Up to few days ago I had perfect string (tested), but I did a reformat... sorry. I think it needed quotes around some part. And I would NEVER want to uninstall huffy anyway... :D
Besides typing the above line in command prompt, you should also try deleting the file HUFFYUV.DLL in C:\Windows\System32 and searching the registry for the string "HUFFYUV". There shouldn't be too many references...
Good Luck! :)

*edit: actually it's setupdll.dll, but still don't know if it works (and I've no intention of testing it.)

I managed to uninstall it now as it doesn't appear in VDubMod's compression window, but I still get the same error message when trying to load the filtered stream . I guess the FFDShow installation doesn't include an actual VFW decoder...

Why dont you load it via AVS (DirectshowSource) -> VDubMod ???

Go into the VfW decoder tab and make sure that HuffYUV is not set to disabled.

I tried with AVISource and VDubMod (or Avisynth, don't know which) crashed. Curiously enough, using DirectShowSource worked. I think I did try that once too and had a crash as well. Maybe this time it worked thanks to GrofLuigi's recommendations.
Thanks for the replies, people :).
celtic_druid: huffyuv was set to libavcodec.
