Has anyone tried the new WinDVD player, it is supposed to have full support for H264. Just interested if this includes encodes made by Recode (including subs).

Ok, thanks, I overlooked this info, in this case I can forget about the 38 MB installation file.

I don't think there is any player supporting High Profile yet. Am I right? As far as I know, not even a HP encoder is out. :)

I'm pretty sure Nero's ShowTime supports HP decoding.

Well about HP Profile Encoder, X264 has HP options, but not all of them i think!

very interesting, thanks!

seeing it from the decoder point of view: anyone knowing what decoder they use (meaning from what company)? does windvd have any special relations to a company like sorenson, moonlight or mainconcept?

i also find it interesting that they mention 3gpp/3gpp2 support, cause .3gp is pretty much the same as .mp4, so i could guess that they support avc-in-mp4 too, which would mean that they support avc .mp4 files as for example encoded by nero or qt7, gonna check this out more closely

I've made quick tests this afternoon...

There is no information about that in the h264 dshow filter...:-/ But I read in required Software (http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVD_Download.jsp) that WinDVD7 Platinum needs QuickTime, RealPlayer, WMP...

tested with 2 samples (x264 video only embedded in mp4) and a other mp4 (one x264 video stream and 2 audios streams), the video is stuttered and audio is pretty jerkly in my config... :scared:

the decoder included is the one from videosoft (aka vss)

Kurtnoise13, can you check what parser/splitter filter is used with .mp4?

now i have quicktime 7 installed which uses which do play
mp4: which is the container of AVC defined in the MPEG-4 Standard (ISO 14496-15) and supported by Nero, Sorenson, Envivio, Moonlight and x264 atm

but when i encode with mainconcept it saves it as this

I did some tests and it won't play my NeroDigital .mp4 files. Wasn't MP4 supposed to be a standard, so everything compatible to it would play it with no problems? ;)

At least QuickTime 7 would play my NeroDigital files (a little too heavy, but that's a start, could be QT's decoder that isn't optmized yet).

OK then, better be their fault indeed! :D But I was wondering, did anyone else tested mp4 files on it? I just wanted to know if it was an isolated problem.

My NeroDigital mp4 files play alright on QuickTime 7. They are just not as butter smooth as in any other player I have. But nothing that an optimization can't do. :)

no idea, but as it seems to be dshow based the windvd filters might also get used in other players once you install it

i woul test it myself but it always crashes here :(

I tested and I suppose it's the qt splitter which is used in WinDVD for the mp4 playback. I deleted all mp4 splitters that I had (haali, nero, ateme) and the playback works directly with this player whereas with graphedit I couln't render the files. Hope this helps.

Kurtnoise

lol, i dont get it how they can offer a 3gp parser filter, but dont make it support .mp4. those two containers are as good as the same...

DeepDVD

Don't know what's the problem is. NeroDigital-AVC in MP4-container works as good as Showtime. I recognized heavy delocking on the playback. Might be my 400 kbps-Videofile though. ;)

But I have problems playing DVDs on WinDVD. I get no sound. AVIs and another codecs run properly... with sound.
Someone also got that problem?
