A friend has a Pioneer Dv-535 DVD Player; it performs well and handles NTSC , PAL 4:3 and 16:9 formats without discomfort!
However I have a problem that *only* occurs on this DVD player.
I have burnt a DVD of an episode off standard definition digital TV, native format 16:9. The TV program within that transport stream is 4:3. No problem with this, I edited the IFO file to "pan and scan" so the image would fill the full screen size of a 4:3 TV. The DVD plays correctly filling the entire screen on every DVD player I can lay my hands on except the Pioneer DV-535 where it appears with black side curtains either side and the image is squeezed in-between. I have set the DVD player to 4:3 letterbox, Pan and Scan, even 16:9 and it makes no difference! This Pioneer hails from around 1999.
