View Full Version : DVD2SVCD didn't use correct cut point why ?

I did a backup of "National Treasure"
I left out the last 2 chapters (credits I didn't want to waste bitrate on)

my bitrate tab settings are:

Between 0 and 75 mins. Use 1 CD size 800
Between 75 and 150 mins. Use 2 CD size 800
Between 150 and 225 mins. Use 3 CD size 800
Between 225 and 300 mins. Use 4 CD size 800
Between 300 and 375 mins. Use 5 CD size 800
Between 375 and 9999 mins. Use 6 CD size 800

Max set at 2600 and Max Avg. set at 2600, min 300 min avg 800.

These settings have previously always resulted in the Muxed_File00.mpg
894 or 895 MB and theCD_Image_File_CD1.bin @ 804-807 MB

807 MB is the largest CD_Image_File_CD1.bin I've been able to fit onto a so called 700 MB CD

----> But this time the resulting 2nd files (the 2nd one) was too large to fit
onto a so called 700 MB CD

The bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg was 794 MB
The bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg was 798 MB

Which resulted in

the CD_Image_File_CD1.bin @ 805 MB
the CD_Image_File_CD2.bin @ 809 MB

So, What the heck happened, and why. How do I prevent this in the future. ?Did choosing to skip the end credits cause this to happen somehow ?

I would try 2-pass encoding in QuEnc.
I notice in both your threads you are getting funny filesizes.
I suspect with 2-pass encoding, although it will take longer, filesizes should be more accurate.

I opened the .ifo file with IfoEdit v0.96 and it lists the non-existant last 2 chapters that originally had the end credits. Would this screw up the estimated file size cut point some how ? I tried to delete those 2 rows by highlighting them, then hitting the delete key - that did nothing. Can I delete those last 2 rows describing the end credit chapters somehow ? thanks.

Your findings from the IFO are quite normal and have no effect of the cutpoint.
As I say, try two-pass encoding in QuEnc.

If you are only oversizing by a couple of megs try lowering the CD sizes in the bitrate tab from 800 to 795(you can type in any number you like), that will give you a little more margin for error.

Thanks ralphthedog. so that will let it go the extra 2-5mins more? Thanks again.

btx306, this will only make the images a tiny bit smaller so you won't be as likely to suffer images you can't burn to CD, it does not change how many minutes of film fits on the disc (unless you are using CBR).

You can alter how many minutes per disc etc. in the bitrate tab though, but more minutes on a disc = lower quality.....
