View Full Version : 21 GIG to 8.7?..Possible with Rebuilder?

I took the three disc set of Monster Garage Season 1 and edited & merged with DVDRemakePro 3.0.1. I now have a 21.8 gig Video_TS folder. I tried using DVDShrink setup for a DVD-9, which showed about 51% compression. As I am not TOO concerned on having HDTV quality..I thought I'd try and see if it would work. Well after 5 hours of transcoding, DVDShrink could only get it to 13 gigs.
My question, is there a way to do it with DVDRebuilder..or what would you suggest (minus, not doing all three comment)
Thanks :thanks:

You can use the hidden targetsectors setting (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=482090#post482090) to adjust the targetsize to fit a DVD9, if that's what you're looking for.

LOL....thanks..I think I'll need it.
Wonder why jdobbs doesn;t make a advanced tab and make these unhidden?

It is for advanced users. Beginners would screw it up and cry to jdobbs that there is a bug in the system when it is really just operator error. That is why it is hidden.
Look in the help file that came with DVD-RB under
"Hidden Options".

Well after 26 hours of encoding (CCE 2.70.02 SP) with 4 pass. and a little over an hour for rebuilding....it's fianlly done. I must say...it's not pretty. The slower moving frames looked decent..but fast action..looked blocky and the colors and ausio were not as good.
I'm new...and should have expected this...trying to compress 21 gig's to 8 gigs and maintain MPEG2 compliance. Bitrate of the final project was about 1.4 kbps on average.
I wonder since this does not need to be played on a home DVD, but a PC...is there a program that will compress to AVC/MPEG4 and keep origianl menu's?
Maybe ratDVD might work?...Nero Recode?
Oh well..thanks to jdobbs and the group for a great program...look forward to using it more and more

Try checking "Resize to Half D1" then "Apply to All". It might help a bit.

Yep, using Half D1, some filtering and maybe ProCoder 2 instead of CCE and you can get the quality up. I did that on a couple of American Chopper discs with 5 episodes on them and it came out ok. But that was still 1900 bps. Your 1400 bps might just be too low.

Any idea if CCE or Procoder will support dual core (hyperthreading). Not sure when I'll have 25 hours or so to encode again. LOL

Any MPEG4 apps that will import my Vide_TS and keep the menu structure. And has a free codec for playback?

Hmm..wonder if jdobbs could implement a MPEG4 codec usage?..Or is that not possible. <semi-newbie..be gentle :) )

As a matter of fact it seems to me that jdobbs has mentioned something like that sometime ago... not sure... maybe I'm wrong... but even if I'm right it WILL take a while :)
edit: spelling corrected :)

I've personally had very good luck using RatDVD. I would recommend it for doing what your suggesting if the material will be played exclusively on a windows PC. However, be aware, that the ratDVD container's proprietary video codec takes quite a bit of power to playback. Turning off the high-quality scaler helps this significantly tho.

How about Nero Recode?...I know theres an option to convert DVD to Nero Digital..but will that keep the whole DVD in tact? (menu's?)
DivX6?..Did I read something about menu's?
Thanks Guys
I will try ratDVD when I get home

i did too: Interactive video menus offer unprecedented convenience and control so you can quickly navigate between various scenes or bonus features, and select from audio track and subtitle options

Yea...but when I D?L the DivX 6, it specifically says it does not work with VOB's...I don' think you can drag the Video_TS folder over and all will work when done.
