View Full Version : Feature requests [edited]

(I wonder of jdobbs will even listen to feature requests when he's this close to v1.00 :))
I recently did a few backup where I managed to squeeze in a whole lot of the original DVD onto the backup using all the nifty tricks of DVD-RB such as half D1, filters and whatnot. But I realized that the quality would've been even better if I could apply filters and encoder on a per-VTS basis. For example I would've used HC for the main movie to get a nice sharp image while using ProCoder on the old documentaries in the extras at half D1. Then applying different filters to each VTS because they were very, very different in quality.
I know it might be a wild request but maybe you'll consider it for a later version? :)
edit: maybe having one choice of filter and encoder for the main title and another choice for the extras, just like matrices, is more in line with the current shape of the prog

:stupid:
i'll throw in another one before someone stops me.. this one is a little less wild :)
When I use any steal space or half/half option i'm really interested in seeing what kind of bitrates I get on the main feature and the extras. It would be great to have those display separatly when atleast one of the steal space thingys are in use, like so
- Main Feature HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 5 198/500/3 747 Kbs
- Extras HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 3 583/500/2 516 Kbs
:thanks: for reading

Just a note... always remember to multiply NTSC video by 1.25 to get the actual bitrates -- the ones displayed are the one used for the encoder before it is converted back to full speed playback...
I'm always open to suggestions. But I'm limiting what will be in v1.00 (wait til you see the new interface!) so I can get it out the door -- you might see your suggestions in v1.10, though!!

How about a added option to allow the user to select the size of his output?
(Yes I know it can be added manually to the INI file)

hello,
for me the most desired feature would be "THE RB-FARM" integrated to RB-pro.
mebby it would be possible to use it in such a way :
only the encoder needs to be installed on other machines and well a farm module should be running as a service (with an agent to be configured, started, stopped etc.) with set-able priority (realtime - idle), path (unc as well as via shares) to the working dir a.s.o. - only restriction - all encoders have 2 b the same version - of course ;-)
other integrations - some of the fine tools that are available could be integrates as well (only the calling of them - "rb-shell-integration" folder tools or smthg.) ...
a post batch processing feature like "run after finishing each *.rbd" file and run after all batches completed.
and a batch prepare only feature - and adding as well as removing files to and from the batch list while batch processing is running ...
okay that was quite a bunch of uncontrolled thought-flow. maybe some of the ideas are easily to be implemented and jdobbs likes them so much that he might consider to keep them on one of his todo lists ...
cheers - ahab666

Maybe that edit on the thread title wasn't one of my brightest moments.. :)
Just a note... always remember to multiply NTSC video by 1.25 to get the actual bitrates -- the ones displayed are the one used for the encoder before it is converted back to full speed playback...That's good to know (even if my DVD collection is 98% PAL). May I ask why you don't multiply in-prog and display what would be the final bitrates; wouldn't that be the number the user can more easily relate to? :)
I'm always open to suggestions. But I'm limiting what will be in v1.00 (wait til you see the new interface!) so I can get it out the door -- you might see your suggestions in v1.10, though!!I fully understand that, and i'm really looking forward to 1.00 too! I'll stand by to bump this when 1.00 is out the door and the dust has settled :)
I'll write another one down so i'll remember it. Some discs have all extras tucked away in the menus, in this recent case VIDEO_TS.VOB and VTS_01_0.VOB in Godzilla (1998) R1. It'd be great to be able to reencode those parts as extras, too :)

One feature I would ADORE would be a small addition to the Segment Editor. I would like to see and option like "Do Not Compress." This would selectively disable recompression of the material in those segments.
Reason being, that I have many episodic Anime discs in which the main feature is well under the DVD5 size mark, and even with extras (which are often times pencil-tests or animatics that require little bitrate) the disc is only slightly too large. It would be great to disable compression on the feature titles, and simply have the encoder apply extra compression to the extras, since it would hardly be noticable int eh final product, and would not only drasticly shortent eh processing time, but allow me to keep the disc structure intact while maintaining original quality.
I realize that this is possible using DVDShrink, however, I would still perfer to use the comparitively higher quality of the HC encoder. Also, in some rarer cases, the available bitrate may be too low for DVDShrink to allow for the compression, even tho it would be acceptable given the nature of the source.
Just a thought.
