Did you do them as selectable subs or permanent subs?

I selected the srt file as shown in the instructions, I not sure what you mean..quite new to this.
I added external subs and put srt file in....

Basically it's like this.
There are 2 settings for DVD in the Subtitles tab:
DVD Subs and Permanent Subs.

If you selected Permanent Subs, the text should have been added in at the frameserving stage - ie the frames fed to the video encoder already have the text added.

If you selected DVD Subs, the subs are separate and superimposed on the video by your DVD player, i.e. the player will play back the video without subs inless you press the Subs button on the remote to activate them.

If you selected permanent subs but nothing appears in the final DVD, something went wrong. If you selected DVD Subs, firstly be sure to switch the subs on on your player. If there's still no sign, I am not sure what happened because the log looks fine to me.

you can preview the vobs on VLC or Media Player classic who both support selectable DVD subtitles and see there, of course burning on a media (RW if you don't want to waste one) is always the best option
